I resolved the issue, the cause of which was indeed Kaspersky. Before even my first request for assistance to AOMEI support, I suspected the cause was the anti-virus. However, although I invoked the pause protection function of Kaspersky during testing, such was insufficient, necessitating today an uninstall. The incompatibility was specifically with the very popular and very excellent AOMEI Backupper.
