I have tried both method, but none of them accepts the code.
“COBI19 not found” error message on https://app.citymaps2go.com/redeem after logging in with Facebook.
Invalid gift code in the app itself in option/redeem.

It worked after I created a user, just like you did (but not with facebook login).
After installing the app, you have to login with the created user (hidden in the top left corner, left to the Ulmon logo).
It gives you the PRO version with unlimited offline map downloads and no ads.
